March 4, 2013, Austin, Texas – Empower Lounge and the Pipeline Fellowship have teamed up to host an event aimed at addressing the lack of diversity in the U.S. angel investing community. Pipeline Fellowship Founder & CEO Natalia Oberti Noguera will discuss how her organization is changing the face of angel investing and she will interview special guest Ingrid Vanderveldt on Ingrid’s efforts to increase diversity in the VC and entrepreneurship communities.
Empower Lounge is working with the Pipeline Fellowship to engage women philanthropists in the South Central Texas area, putting them on the path to becoming angel investors. “We are a natural fit to collaborate with the Pipeline Fellowship in Austin, as we are based here,” said Misty Gibbs, founder of Empower Lounge, a media site dedicated to helping women entrepreneurs launch and scale businesses to >US$1M.
In 2011, only 12% of U.S. angel investors were women and only 4% were minorities, according to the Center for Venture Research at the University of New Hampshire. The Pipeline Fellowship aims to change that with their angel investing bootcamp for women philanthropists. Pipeline Fellowship Founder & CEO Natalia Oberti Noguera says that their mission is to increase diversity in the U.S. angel investing community while creating capital for women social entrepreneurs. “As usual, entrepreneurs are ahead of the curve-while they have created hybrid business models, we need more hybrid investors who get the financial, environmental, and social value of triple bottom line businesses,” remarked Natalia Oberti Noguera, “I saw a huge opportunity to engage women philanthropists as angel investors by sharing with them the positive impact they could make through investing in women-led for-profit social ventures in exchange for equity.”
“With Austin in the Top 10 cities to be a woman entrepreneur, we’re excited to welcome Pipeline Fellowship’s innovative and disruptive take on capital creation,” added Misty Gibbs.
The event will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013, while Natalia Oberti Noguera is in town speaking at SXSW on the “Cultivating the New Minority Entrepreneur” panel (March 10, 2013) and at the Black Founders Conference on the “How Have Angel Investing and Crowdfunding Changed the Way Startups Get Money?” panel (March 8, 2013).
