We saw the 2013 International Women’s Day theme of “The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum” and knew we wanted to pay tribute to the progress and success women entrepreneurs have made globally!
What does gaining momentum mean to us here at Empower Lounge? Every day, around the world, women entrepreneurs are launching and building successful companies in record numbers. What’s inspiring women to build their own businesses?
40% of female entrepreneurs claim their role model or inspiration for starting a business was another female entrepreneur.
Our mission is help women share their entrepreneurial stories to foster this momentum! There was a time when we had to search high and low for stories to tell but as you will see in our video tribute, women have come a long way blazing trails bigger and faster than ever!
Now it’s time to tell their story + your story! Enjoy!
The designer of the clip, Sarah Salinas-Weld, has been making the world a more beautiful place with her designs for years. As a trained graphic designer and passionate copywriter, Sarah was inspired by the progress women have been making in business.
Here’s what Sarah had to say about helping Empower Lounge create the video:
Inspiration came easy. I had the pleasure of working with a group of women who want to educate, mentor, motivate, and support other women who are trying to be successful in their own entrepreneurial endeavors. How could I not be inspired, right? The pinterest-esque layout and the bright colors of the Empower Lounge website provides a ton of information in a way that is both upbeat and functional. This was my approach to the video clip. Getting a lot of motivating information out there in a way that was vivid yet informative. Our goal was also intended to provoke a little, to inspire. There are women out there running successful businesses and there’s no reason why you can’t be one of them!
Sarah is an up and coming graphic designer, who in addition to design loves to write. She just launched her lifestyle blog, Collide Blog, where she can entertain all her varied interests and multiple personalities.

Nina Simone, one of the earliest known lounge singers in the US, began her career aspiring to be a classical pianist. She attended Juliard and when she ran out of money, had to quit and turned to singing jazz in clubs in New York City to make money. An entrepreneur in her own way, because her pivot from pursuing the classics to singing turned her into a household name.
The song selected for this piece, Feeling Good, was a natural fit for the information about women entrepreneurs. We certainly felt good when we began to see patterns of success in countries around the world!
